The RAV4 Hybrid mixes all the attributes of the standard gasoline model with the miserly fuel economy we’ve all come to love and appreciate from Toyota’s brand of hybrids.
Powertrains and Performance
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, electric motors front and rear, a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Combined system output is 194 horsepower.
Under normal operation, the RAV4 Hybrid's powertrain sends power to the front wheels for maximum efficiency. Venture off the beaten path or encounter slippery conditions, however, and the powertrain automatically engages the electrically driven rear wheels when needed to provide enhanced traction.
When it comes to fuel economy, the RAV4 Hybrid is a real winner, returning an EPA-estimated 33 mpg combined (34 city/31 highway).* Naturally, the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is the most fuel efficient model in the entire lineup, it's also the most fuel-efficient vehicle in it its class and the most fuel-efficient all-wheel drive hybrid you can buy.
Features and Trims
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is available in XLE and Limited trim levels, with a starting price of $28,370.**
When it comes to features, the XLE trim strikes a good balace between value and convenience. Standard exterior items include 17-inch wheels, exteriors roof rails, and a sunroof (sun not included). Does your body temp not always allign with your co-pilot's? Standard dual-zone climate control is on hand to help. The RAV4 Hybrid even comes with standard keyless entry and ignition, as well as a remote power liftgate, making it easy to load and unload gear. Do you appreciate help when backing out of spaces? No problem. The RAV4 Hybrid comes with a standard rearview camera.

Stepping up to the Limited trim nets you chrome exterior trim, LED headlights, and 18-inch wheels. The Limited also incorporates additional safety features that all drivers are sure to appreciate. These include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control.
Limited trim models also increase the luxury quotient with synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, and an eight-way power driver seat (with power lumbar) and driver memory settings.
Design
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid brings the compact SUV to new stylish heights. The design features a sleek front end, as well as updated side lower exterior panels.
The interior shows all the right touches with upgraded materials designed for both comfort and noise/vibration reduction. It's not only a smooth ride -- it's a quiet one, too. Also standard are eight cup holders and 60/40 split rear seats that fold down to give a whopping cargo capacity of up to 73.4 cubic feet.
Safety
All 2016 Toyota RAV4 models come with four-wheel ABS anti-lock brakes standard. Also standard are tire traction control (TRAC), front and side airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Important for families, the RAV4 Hybrid includes child seat anchors and child-protector rear safety locks.
